Recently
I've come
to realize
some of
the reasons
why I
love surfing.
I love
that surfing
isn't safe.
There are
sharks,
large whales,
sharp rocks,
sea urchins,
reefs,
gnarly
currents,
big waves,
long hold
downs and
countless
other potential
hazards.
And just
when we
start to
feel comfortable
and think
we're understanding
the Ocean
and a particular
sandbar
or reef...
the ocean
blindsides
us and
swats us
back down
to humble
town.
To
top that
all off,
it's impossible
to schedule
a certain
time to
surf. Unlike
most everything
else in
our world,
the ocean
calls the
shots on
when we
can and
can't surf.
We are
unable
to call
the night
before
and book
a court
like a
tennis
player
would.
While this
can be
a very
frustrating
fact, I
wouldn't
change
it if I
had the
power to
do so.
It forces
us to appreciate
every shred
we're given,
especially
here in
Oregon. Surfing
wouldn't
be the
same without
these equations,
sharks
included.
I am beginning
to understand
that the
things I
love about
surfing,
are also
some of the
same things
I love about
God. I love
that God
can't be
put in a
box. He certainly
isn't safe,
and isn't
that a good
thing? Would
you truly
love your
wife / husband
/ girlfriend
/ boyfriend
/ brother
/ sister
if you were
forced to
love them?
Peace in
and Peace
out,
